Our company held a technical seminar at the Taiwan Livestock Industry Exhibition on June 20, 2024, titled "Application of diformates and third-generation acidifier to improve health and performance in sustainable pig production". This seminar specially invited Dr. Stevan Petrović from the global technical service of the feed department of ADDCON GmbH as a lecturer.
The briefing mainly introduced the application of diformates and third-generation acidifier in pig health and production performance, focusing on two products: Formi 3G and ADDCON XL Forte. It was pointed out at the meeting that the intestinal bacteria of pigs will change drastically before and after weaning, resulting in bacterial imbalance, and maintaining a healthy intestine requires consuming 25% of the protein and 20% of the energy in the feed.
Due to consumer concerns about antibiotic resistance, the research for alternatives to antibiotics has become necessary. Feed acidifier are considered an effective alternative to improve animal health and performance. According to the briefing, organic acids can reduce the energy of bacteria, interfere with their DNA and protein synthesis, and ultimately lead to the death of the bacteria. Formi 3G, composed of and monolaurate, is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Experimental results show that adding 1.2% Formi 3G can significantly reduce the number of Escherichia coli and Streptococcus in sow feces and reduce the risk of pathogenic bacterial infection in piglets. Sows fed Formi 3G have increased daily feed intake, increased milk production, increased weaning piglet weight, and increased average daily weight gain.
In addition, the liquid third-generation acidifier Addcon XL Forte is very effective against Gram bacteria. Adding 0.4 L/1000L to drinking water can significantly reduce the total number of microorganisms and reduce pathogenic bacteria and the risk of bacterial infection. Formic acid and monolaurin have significant inactivating effects on many types of viruses, especially enveloped viruses. Formi 3G has a synergistic effect on reducing the spread of swine diseases and can significantly reduce the African swine fever virus in feed and the infectivity of PRRS virus in nursery pigs.
In summary, sows play an important role in intestinal health, and Formi 3G can significantly improve the intestinal health and production performance of pig, and also has a certain impact on viral diseases. The liquid form of ADDCON XL Forte also shows good results in drinking water.
